With this new Wrangler truck model, Jeep has created the very first open-air truck in the industry. The 2020 Jeep Gladiator clearly resembles the Wrangler's most distinct look in a lot of ways, but with the addition of a truck bed that can haul up to 1,600 pounds. Its versatile truck bed features a three-position tailgate. To that you'll be able to add a roll-up bed cover and a 115-volt power outlet. When properly equipped, you can hitch a boat, trailer or decent-sized camper up to 7,650 pounds. Additionally, drivers will have the choice between a hard-top and soft-top much like the Wrangler.

Also like the Wrangler, the 2020 Gladiator will be offered in a variety of trims: the Sport, Sport S, Overland, and Rubicon. The base Sport trim will feature a 3.6-liter V6 engine that generates 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and is paired with a six-speed transmission, as well as Heavy Duty Dana 44 front and rear axles that provide four-wheel drive. Standard features with the base trim include a rearview camera, hill start assist, air conditioning, keyless entry and ignition, and a multimedia system with eight-speaker audio, a 5-inch display and Bluetooth. The Sport S model offers an upgraded multimedia system and the 115-volt bed outlet. The Overland offers a top-of-the-line 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, leather-trimmed seats and adaptive cruise control.

The cream-of-the-crop Rubicon model offers even more features and improved off-road performance. With the Rubicon, you'll get everything included with the Sport S model as well as some unique features like the vented Rubicon hood, off-road rock rails and 33-inch off-road tires. There's also the Rock-Trac 4X4 system with crawl control. The 7-inch touchscreen multimedia system that is optional with the Sport S model is standard with the Rubicon and it allows for smartphone integration features: Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Pricing has not yet been revealed for the 2020 Jeep Gladiator, but Kelley Blue Book estimates that the starting price will be slightly higher than $31,445 - the current price of the four-door Wrangler. Combining the rugged style of the Wrangler and the utility of a truck is one of the smartest ideas to come from Jeep in recent years and it's sure to pay off. Look forward to more information once the 2020 Jeep Gladiator heads to dealer lots later this spring.
