2020 GMC Acadia

With a 2020 update to its popular Acadia SUV, GMC has ensured this year's model stands out more than ever due to a tougher face that better matches its truck marketing. The Acadia's archaic six-speed automatic has been replaced by a nine-speed unit that improves acceleration and fuel efficiency. GMC has also added an optional turbocharged four-cylinder engine that can offer similar benefits when compared to the basic four-cylinder option. The 2020 model present the latest infotainment system in the cabin with USB-C fast-charging ports and a variety of other features and trim levels. These additions make the Acadia a more distinctive option for potential consumers. Read on to find out what's changed with the 2020 GMC Acadia.

The new 2-L turbocharged four-cylinder engine is standard on SLT and higher models. This engine will produce 230 hp with 258 lb.-ft of torque. The SL and SLE models boast a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine with 193 hp and 188 lb.-ft of torque. The new 9-speed automatic transmission couples well with the fuel-saving stop/start technology and a switch allowing the driver to deactivate this system. Additional performance upgrades include the new electronic precision shift that utilizes an electronic control to free up interior room. Each engine leverages GM's TriPower valvetrain technology that uses a high valve lift for maximum power and low valve lift for an improved balance of efficiency and power. Also, Active Fuel Management disable two cylinders during light load conditions to improve efficiency.

With an interior crafted for comfort, the Acadia features advanced functionality for the most comfortable ride available. From the leather-wrapped steering wheel to advanced temperature control to seating versatility in the back two rows, the GMC engineers did not overlook a single detail. With smart storage solutions, drivers can conveniently stow gear in the new large pass-through under-console storage, covered under-floor cargo-area and the fold-flat seating which increases cargo space to 79 cubic feet. With three tows of seating, the Acadia can comfortably hold 6 or 7 people and the third row offers 50/50 split seats. The Smart Slide second-row seating offers easy access to third-row seating. Also, using the Latch system, second-row seats can slide forward and slightly angle, even with an empty child seat in place.

While GMC typically has a positive safety rating, the Acadia has improved safety even further with the addition of a variety of features. First, side blind-zone alerts provide drivers with a visual indicator when a vehicle falls into the blind spot. If the driver signals in that direction, an audible warning is presented. Forward Collision Alert warns drivers of an impending front collision using a visual and audible alarm. The Rear Cross-Traffic Alert notifies the driver when traffic is approaching from any side of the vehicle when the gear is popped into reverse. At this time, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration has not yet rated every category of the Acadia except in the Rollover category which received a 4/5 indicating a low risk of rollover.

The 2020 Acadia can be purchased in one of five trim levels - SL, SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali with three different engine variants. The SL is well-equipped but lacks some safety features common in other base models and is priced at $36,000. Infotainment features include an 8-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, OnStar with Wi-Fi, manually adjustable front seats and cloth upholstery. The SLE adds satellite radio, selectable traction control modes for various situations and additional engine upgrades. The well-equipped SLT is more luxurious with leather upholstery, a power liftgate, remote start, power seats, second-row captain's seats, and a more powerful engine with the cost around $40,000. The AT4 is the all-terrain option with off-road aids like hill descent control and automatic hill hold. The highest-end Denali option boasts a V6 engine, front-wheel drive and is loaded with almost all GMC options.
